8 April 2011

Large amounts of unlicensed medicines have actually been taken by Department of Health authorities during a search of a house in Glengormley.

A man was interviewed by department officers about illegally importing and subsequently supplying unlicensed impotence medications through the internet.

The 47-year-old was also about other medication offenses.

He will now be the subject of a report to the general public Prosecution Service.

The search was performed by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement workplace, Peter Moore, said: "It is crucial that we get the message across that unlicensed medications can be hazardous.

"These types of products being sold, usually online, have actually gone through no quality assurance and there can be no assurance about their security.

"You merely do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these products were made in. More notably, you do not understand the impact drugs like this might have on your health."
